HISTORY OF THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF LODZ:


  The Medical Academy of Lodz was originally founded in January, 1950, by a Resolution of the Polish Cabinet Council. In October, 2002, by an Act of the Polish Parliament, The Medical Academy of Lodz and The Military Medical Academy of Lodz were merged into one large medical university, The Medical University of Lodz.

  The Medical University of Lodz consists of the Departments of Medicine, Dentistry, Military Medicine, Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, and Pharmacy. It is a leading European research center, which comprises 6 research institutes and 49 Chairs. Clinical teaching is conducted in seven fully-equipped University Teaching Hospitals, with a total bed capacity of 2,900, and staffed by 1,250 medical professors, includinging 750 specialists. Additionally, the Medical University collaborates worldwide with numerous universities, research centers and medical institutes.
  
  Ultimately, what defines a medical school is the quality and effectiveness of its faculty. At The Medical University of Lodz, students benefit from a 350 plus Basic Science and Clinical Medicine Faculty, all with impeccable credentials as physicians, teachers, and researchers. Almost every member of The Medical University of Lodz holds a dual Md/Ph.D. Degree, and all are Board Certified in their respective specialties. With an outstanding faculty such as this, it is no surprise that the graduates of the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Lodz obtained the highest scores among graduates of all Polish Medical Schools, in the 2004-2005 Polish Medical Licensing Exams.
